With 2011 quickly coming to an end, this is a good time to look back over the year and see which industries added the most jobs. To be sure, not a lot of jobs were added to the workforce this year, as companies were still reluctant to hire, regardless of what their needs were or how urgent those needs were.
So—which industries DID hire the most people in 2011? There’s a good chance that you have an idea of what those industries are, especially if you work in one of those industries. Luckily for us, we have a list of just those industries that added jobs this year… as well as a list of those industries that cut the most jobs this year.
That list is courtesy of CNNMoney.com.
Below is a list of those industries that have added the most jobs in 2011:
- Retail—149,760
- Hospitality—51,500
- Technology—18,900
- Automotive—17,900
- Professional Services—7,500
- Industrial Goods—6,500
On the flip side of the coin, below is a list of those industries that have cut the most jobs in 2011:
- Government—162,400
- Financial Services—54,500
- Retail—46,100
- Aerospace/Defense—33,300
- Pharmaceutical—20,100
- Health Care Products—19,100
It’s interesting to note that the Retail industry was included on both lists, indicating a lot of activity—both good and bad. In addition, despite the tremendous growth that Pharmaceutical and Health Care have experienced in recent years, both areas cut jobs in 2011, illustrating that the economic recovery is still a slow one.
Is the industry you work included on either of these lists? Which one? And what have you experienced in 2011?
