Just How Great is the Demand for Data Analysts?

by | Oct 2, 2012 | Recruiter Training, Top Echelon Blog

Every recruiter knows that a company’s desire to hire is tied directly to their need to hire.

If their need is great enough, the recruiting and hiring process goes rather quickly.  The company needs somebody, they’re willing to pay a recruiter to find somebody, and once that person is found (and hired), they DO pay that recruiter.

And everybody lived happily ever after…

Of course, it’s not always like that, especially in certain industries and within certain niches.  However, one niche where a tremendous amount of needs seems to exist is that of data analytics.

According to a recent article by USAToday.com, data analysts are in great demand by U.S. companies, a trend that should continue throughout the remainder of this decade.

Here are some of the takeaways from that article:

1. The field has exploded during the past year and a half, yet there isn’t enough talent to keep up with demand.

2. Data analysts are considered to be at least as important as engineers and designers.

3. There’s no reason to doubt that the field will continue to expand in the years ahead.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, demand for workers in Information Technology (especially in data analytics and mobile technology) is expected to grow 19% between now and the year 2020.  That’s a lot of demand by a lot of companies willing to pay a lot of placement fees.

What are your thoughts?  Do you work in this industry and niche?  What are you seeing?  Is demand that great for these kinds of candidates?
