For years, I’ve handed out plastic frogs while training at conferences. This was my attempt to encourage attendees to “swallow the biggest frog first.” In other words, complete the task they least desire first each day. This clears their mind to then work at their highest level of performance.
Recently, I was sent an email about tiny frogs which is applicable to our profession. Let me share it with you.
“Once upon a time, there was a bunch of tiny frogs who arranged a running competition. The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower. A big crowd had gathered around the tower to see the race and cheer on the contestants.
“The race began, but honestly, no one in the crowd really believed that the tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower. You heard statements such as, ‘Oh, way too difficult,’ ‘They will never make it to the top,’ and ‘Not a chance that they’ll succeed—the tower is too high.’
“The tiny frogs began collapsing. One by one . . . except for those, who in a fresh tempo, were climbing higher and higher. The crowd continued to yell, ‘It’s too difficult. No one will make it!’ More tiny frogs got tired and gave up. But one continued higher and higher and higher. This one wouldn’t give up.
“At the end, everyone else had given up climbing the tower. Except for the one tiny frog who, after a big effort, was the only one that reached the top! Then all of the other tiny frogs naturally wanted to know how this one frog had managed to do it. A contestant asked the tiny frog how he had found the strength to succeed and reach the goal? It turned out that the winner was DEAF!”
How does this apply to recruiting?
Never listen to other people’s tendencies to be negative or pessimistic. They take your most wonderful dreams and wishes away from you—the ones you have in your heart. It’s important to realize that everything you hear and read will affect your actions!
The news is very negative because good news doesn’t sell advertising. You may have people surrounding you who you need to classify as “noise.” These are the negative people who only talk about what is not right or not going to happen or not going to work! If you want to take advantage of the current upturn in business, you need to have a deaf ear for the noisy people in your life!
5 tips for increased production:
- When problems occur, don’t dwell on them; immediately focus on solutions!
- Implement one change each month to enhance your results.
- Commit to “minimum results” standards every day to avoid slumps.
- Realize no one or no situation can prevent you from success, unless you give them permission. You have 100% control over how you react. Often, it’s best to choose not to react.
- Develop the attitude of, “So what? Now what?”
If you’re not seeing increased production and profits, you may be doing things the same way. Make subtle changes that can result in dramatic increases in your production.
