As a recruiter, it’s always good to know which candidates companies are going to be fighting over in the future. After all, a position that’s tied to urgency is a position that a company will pay you a fee in order to fill—over and over and over again.
Fortune magazine recently published its “Future” issue. In that issue, the magazine mentioned a candidate who should be a hot commodity in 10 years (or maybe even before then).
That candidate: the Data Scientist.
And why, exactly, will companies be willing to throw money at Data Scientists? Well, according to Fortune, at the present time there are roughly 400 million devices connected to the Internet, mainly phones and computers.
Makes sense, right? Sure, but by the year 2022, there will be 50 billion devices connected to the Internet. More phones and computers? Yes, but that’s not all. Other things will be connected, as well, such as vehicles and household appliances.
The future is all about data—generating it, compiling it, and measuring it—and companies are going to need Data Scientists in order to accomplish all of these tasks. In the future, the companies that are the most successful (regardless of industry) are the ones that are able to handle information and data most effectively and most efficiently.
